Spamdemic

This issue deserves more than a mention in the daily-links section.
It appears that SpamHaus is again caught in a legal battle. Check details at www.networkworld.com - and follow this closely, as there is more than the just the obvious debate over spam going on here. Opinons abound within securiteam.com’s blog.
Personally and professionally I make use of RBL from ORDB, SpamHaus and SpamCop. And then run everything through Spamassassin. And there is still an awful lot that makes it through to my inbox. I applaud the efforts of those helping to stem the flow, and wish I could do more to help them as it seems that they are always being threatened by ’spam-for-hire’ operators. If you have never explored the in-breeding that goes on in that ‘business model’ check out “Clueless Mailers”. It is an older site by now, but has a very interesting map that details the inter-relationships that some of these companies have constructed. Makes ya wonder…
My little mailserver hosts a dozen or so mailboxes for friends and family, but routinely rejects thousands of smtp connections every day thanks at least in part to the efforts of folks like SpamHaus. We whitelist most everyone we know and set our SpamAssassin threshold pretty low - but still receive an amazing barrage of useless, unwanted, and often times offensive material. I may not have the means to help finance their defense, but I can at least show my support here by saying I believe in them. Thank You SpamHaus ! /;^)
