AMATEUR RADIO STILL ALIVE AND WELL

Hey, get busy, learn something new, build a kit, experiment with a homebuilt antenna, subscribe to a good ham magazine like CQ VHF, go out this weekend for Field Day, bring your tent and stay the whole weekend, encourage a new ham to get on the Field Day station, help him learn and see the fun you can have with his or her new friends. How about setting a goal for yourself……. say, I will make 100 contacts this field day…..Why not get excited about this great hobby. Why continue doing the same boring things, how about some new technology to learn about?
CHECK THIS OUT!
http://www.softrockradio.org/ Really bad web site but these little radio kits bring a excitement to anyone who has the patience and can build electronic kits…..add in computer programs, interfaces, external boards, you can be entertained for a LONG time. Do a search for softrock radio and you can find lots of good information and encouragement.
Tony KB9YIG, has kits, very reasonable prices…..look on Google.
http://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/MAP65.pdf Latest creation by K1JT. Free software and amazing results on vhf and more.
http://www.dxatlas.com/CwSkimmer/ Wait until you see this, decodes cw station calls all across the band…..this will change how contesting is done.
http://www.flex-radio.com/ You have to see one of these radios work, all computer, what they can do is amazing, no expensive filters to buy, no auxillary dsp, all software defined, you can see who is on the band and then click on the display….now work em’
http://www.km0t.com/ Be sure and look through his website, I think it is one of the best I have ever found. Learn how he uses the Flex Radio SDR radio, plenty of pictures, take your time and enjoy the journey.
http://www.rfspace.com/Home.html Look what Hams can do with SDR radios, see who is using this technology. Wonder what new technologies hams will use and develop in the next ten years?
Ham radio dying? When you see what is happening in some ham radio clubs today, you could think this………….but there are those who are
DOING, LEARNING, EXPERIMENTING, HAVING A LIFELONG LEARING EXPERIENCE, GROWING IN SKILLS AND CAPIBILITIES. YES, TO THOSE WHO ARE MOTIVATED REAL HAMS THEY LIVE THE ADVENTURE OF AMATEUR RADIO. LIKE THEY SAY AT BRISTOL SPEEDWAY, “RACING THE WAY IT OTTA’BE” WELL, HAM RADIO THE WAY IT OTT’A BE”

Right you are Mike . . .
There is so much new stuff going on in ham radio these days I personally don’t have near enough time to even scratch the surface of the things I am already interested in.
Anyone who is bored within the amateur radio arena is possibly bored with life in general. The world needs more people to watch less TV, and actually take time to DO STUFF - instead of watching so-called “reality” on the tube.
Thanks for posting your latest thoughts.
Maybe other readers will add their comments as well.
* I sure lookin forward to another Field Day * /;^)
