About SomeNet

This blog is the latest in the continuing saga of SomeNet development. Over the years I have built several websites devoted to various topics, but they were one-way only. There was no real feedback from visitors, other than an occasional email. With the rise in popularity of the “Web-log” style of website, visitor feedback can now be incorporated into the main content.

What I hope to do here, is to start posting new material into various Categories, which will show up on the front page. The categories will be archived into monthly searchable units, along with viewer comments. Also on the right-hand sidebar, you see a section called Pages, that will introduce specific topics and point to other sites and material. This way I can still keep my old web sites, and launch new material here.

So, bear with me as I fumble around with this software - and see if I can figure out how to do what I thought I was doing with the old www.somenet website, as well as some new tricks. This promises to be the way to the future, so we’ll try it out.

It keeps saying to hit any key - surely this will work…

20070202 - A one-year-later update …I think the WordPress method is working well, and I have enjoyed working with the software. There are plans in motion to further improve the Somenet presence, but thought I’d take a minute to update the Blog’s Mission Statement (this page). Currently most everything SomeNet is coming out of one little PC box at Gary’s house. I’m looking to finish the setup on a new(er) server-grade hardware platform, and establish a more durable network connection. At that point most of the SomeNet sites will move to the new box. Here is a brief rundown of a few of the other sites that live here.

SquirrelMail The SomeNet mail server has a dozen or so users, and uses the SquirrelMail client for IMAP services. The MTA is Sendmail and uses SpamAssassin to identify and help reduce the amount of delivered Spam.
RMG_home This would be where I put a lot of ham radio stuff. Sometimes there are article postings on the blog referring to a page on this site. Some of the pages are linked to/from other pages, some are just stand-alone pages. I’ve started making them ‘archive-able’ by breaking them into annual directories to try and avoid broken links in the future.
k4vzz_home K4VZZ is a long-time friend and ham-radio cohort. We try to help keep his web presence up to snuff and current. We are experimenting with some blog’ness - but it takes time and effort to come up with stuff to feed a hungry blog. Maybe one day soon . . .
w4abr_jcara W4ABR is the club callsign for the Johnson City Amateur Radio Association. Ken does a great job of adding new material and links to this comprehensive site.
