Reckon the changing weather patterns have a lot to do with the seasonal increase in ham radio balloon launches. Well - spring is in the air, and so are the balloons ! This is a shot of Bill Brown orchestrating a UAH operation last fall at the NSSTC launch site.

This was my first serious effort to participate in a VHF contest since moving to Alabama. I started a few weeks early, listening on 144.200 and 432.100 USB, hoping to catch at least one or two Ops on the air - and I did; K4XR and AK4FL.

QSOnet.com is one of the latest Voice over IP tools to come out, specifically designed for amateur radio use. You don’t have to have a ham radio to use this service, but you do need to have a current license, and know the basics of HF radio communications. Staying at a Holiday Inn won’t help. […]
